Clean before evaluating the surface

Pressure washing removes dirt, mildew, chalk, and loose material so cracks and coating failures are easier to see. Paint should not be used to hide contamination.

Treat cracks and joints as separate details

Hairline cracks, expansion joints, window returns, and door trim need the right patching or sealant approach. Rushing those details is one reason exterior repaints age unevenly.

Use primer where the surface calls for it

Bare patches, repaired stucco, chalky surfaces, and high-porosity areas may need primer before finish coats. The goal is even adhesion and consistent color appearance.
